San Carlos, California Citizens Will Ask For
City Wireless Ordinance 1

San Carlos, California citizens opposed to a series of proposed cell towers will ask their city council tonight for an ordinance controlling wireless facilities. Their city doesn’t currently have zoning rules which directly apply to cell sites.

More than 140 citizens signed a local petition and recently persuaded council members to stop placement of the disputed sites. The organizers contacted Glendale Organized Against Cell Towers through its website, www.getthecelloutofhere.com, and were inspired by Glendale’s example.

They’ve set up their own website, and are now reviewing rules other cities have adopted, including co-location of base stations, restrictions on towers within residential zones or near schools, and wider notification rules along with longer notification periods.

Glendale just completed work on a draft ordinance and released it for review; citizens here should now be evaluating how well this city’s draft ordinance regulates the placement and operation of new cell sites, and participating in community meetings to make their voices heard.

    Elise,
Thanks for the mention. We had a good meeting with the city tonight. We weren’t on the agenda, so didn’t expect them to act on our request, but they clearly listened. We’re getting traction within our local government and with our residents.
