In addition to online background information and an events list on this library webpage, the library has printed information about the book Shanghai Girls, the author, LA’s former “China City”, and a Glendale Community College public lecture series on Chinese/Asian-American subjects. As Mayor of Glendale, it is my great pleasure to announce the third annual One Book/One Glendale citywide reading event. One Book/One Glendale encourages us to read the same book at the same time to promote the value of reading and strengthen the unity of our city by engaging in this process together as neighbors and as citizens of Glendale.

I invite adults to read the wonderful new book, Shanghai Girls by Lisa See. I also invite children to read Poison Ivy by Glendale author Amy Koss. I encourage you to talk about the books at community book groups, meet the authors and attend free public programs at the Library. Please join me in embracing this community program.

Lisa See will be at the Glendale Central Library Auditorium Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. to discuss her book and sign copies.

For younger readers, Koss’s book deals with bullying from a children’s perspective and won an American Library Association award for reluctant readers. Koss will discuss her book at the Glendale Central Library on Thursday, November 19, at 7 p.m.
