Glendale, California’s One Book/One Glendale programs, sponsored by the Friends of the Glendale Public Library and several community partners, feature Chinese identity and culture issues and the book selection Shanghai Girls by Lisa See.

A back country tour of China’s ethnic borderlands exposes the cultural, ethnic, religious, economic, and political diversity that is unappreciated both within China and by the outside world.

One Book/One Glendale 2009 launches with Shanghai Girls, and Poison Ivy; events scheduled from September through November 2009. The Glendale, California city-wide event features book discussions, public lectures at Glendale Community College, a film series, and opportunities to meet the authors.
