Glendale’s Grand Central Air Terminal was the first airport to offer air service between southern California and New York. The first regularly scheduled transcontinental flight from Glendale took place on July 28, 1929, with the first leg of the 48-hour flight piloted by Charles Lindbergh.
Join Robert F. Kirk for a 45-minute illustrated history of Transcontinental Air Transport’s Lindbergh Line and the development of airline giant TWA.
Kirk holds a Ph.D. degree from Oklahoma University and has taught for forty years. He was a decorated pilot during the Vietnam War and wrote his first book titled Warriors at 500 Knots about his experiences flying the F-4D Phantom in combat. In the summer of 2012 he and his wife flew the original “Lindbergh Line” in their airplane and documented in words and photos what remains of this historic route. He lives and flies with his wife in Southern California.
