Save the Music 2! Arturo Sandoval’s 2nd Annual Concert at the Alex Benefits GUSD Music Programs 1

ASI-Save-the-Date_2014Star trumpeter Arturo Sandoval returns to the Alex Theatre with his “Big Band” and a GUSD “All-Star Band” for the benefit Save the Music 2! Saturday, February 15 at 8pm.

Sandoval’s Big Band includes some of LA’s most accomplished musicians, all masters of the jazz, Latin infused Afro-Cuban rhythms Sandoval is known for. Bring your students to this concert! They’ll be thrilled with the music, and getting them in the door costs next to nothing (see below).

The Arturo Sandoval Institute picked Glendale and the Alex for its concert launch last year. “ASI was born out of Sandoval’s belief that all kids should have an opportunity to learn and appreciate music,” says Mercy Velazquez, ASI’s Director. “The institute offers master classes, scholarships, instruments and private tutoring.”

Locally, ASI is working with the Glendale Educational Foundation as well as Glendale Arts. As it did last year, ASI recruited high school students for an All-Star Band to open the concert. “Students who participated last year were thrilled to share the stage with such an iconic musician – a 10-time Grammy winner.” says GEF Director Susan Hunt. “Last year, $10,000 from ASI was part of $250,000 donated – paying for for 300+ instruments! We are fortunate to be able to partner with ASI and Glendale Arts again to benefit students.”

Glendale Arts has arranged for top artists to visit music and performing arts classes at area high schools, and put student performers on stage with them at the Alex. Students and families (including ours) appreciate the personal interaction with performers, and the great opportunities to “learn the ropes” in a professional program. Leveraging the organization’s role, Glendale Arts Executive Director Elissa Glickman focuses on the rewards. “As the manager of the historic Alex Theatre we believe it’s just as important to attract named talent as it to develop and support future artists … With the Arturo Sandoval event, we accomplish both. Plus we have the extra added benefit of partnering with two other outstanding and mission-driven organizations. It’s a win / win for the students, the organizations and for Glendale!”

Especially if you have a student interested in music but even if you don’t, get tickets to hear world-renowned trumpeter Arturo Sandoval with his two bands at the Alex. Last year’s show featured great music, virtuoso trumpet and big band brass sounds, and all-around wonderful entertainment.

Tickets range from $25 – $175 and $10 for students with ID (what a great deal and the students will get so much out of it!). Visit www.alextheatre.org for ways to purchase tickets in person or online. Specially numbered “VIP $175 Tickets” include a pre-event reception at the Alex Theatre, post-party at Far Niente Restaurant with Maestro Sandoval, and VIP show seats.

The Arturo Sandoval Institute Mission is to “Educate + Support + Inspire” and to work to provide Instruction + Instruments + Scholarships + Inspiration for all music students who are not financially capable to buy an instrument or pay for music classes. Over $20,000 were awarded last year. Support the “ASI Students All Jazz Band” playing with Maestro Sandoval on February 15th @ the Alex Theatre: Buy tickets http://www.alextheatre.org
