SR-710 Alternatives, Including Tunnel, Displayed This Week at Community Open Houses

Metro released its State Route 710 Alternatives Analysis Friday, just ahead of three Open Houses set for this week. Streetsblog LA recapped the Executive Summary, and posted one of its graphs showing that a tunnel option would decrease overall air quality…

Those living or working along the proposed route, and along the 210 in each direction (and the closeby 134 interchange – Glendale!): note that the I-710 South is currently being dramatically widened to accommodate more trucks coming up from the ports. Metro and Caltrans say that the 710 north won’t be a container truck route. How can that be so?

The continued push from transportation agencies for a two-deck freeway tunnel, which would
♦ cost upwards of $12 billion
♦ disrupt districts in El Sereno and Pasadena for years, and
♦ add to truck traffic and congestion on the 210
while it would not at all
♦ improve transit options within the study area, or
♦ provide a rail system that gets container trucks off the road
is alarming.
