The Polls Today, the Library Tomorrow

The harvest season for political ads and mailers ends now. Polls are open. Vote. Tomorrow, take a break from the day-after commentary and listen to a longer view of American politics. The Friends of the Glendale Public Library present Dr. Peter Dreier, Occidental College Professor Professor of Political Science and noted author, and his book The 100 Greatest Americans of the 20th Century: A Social Justice Hall of Fame, Wednesday, November 7, 7 p.m., at the Glendale Central Library.

From the Kirkus Review: “The chosen 100 were and are the radicals of their day who challenged injustice wherever they saw it: the monopoly and corruption of big business, exploitation of workers, U.S. militarism, legal inequity for women, blacks and minorities, degradation of the environment, voter restrictions on African-Americans, the gross discrepancy between haves and have-nots, etc.”

This free event featuring a prominent political observer is a great opportunity to get some long-term perspective on today’s results as well as the years ahead. Our public library system adds to community capital with relevant programs and services. I hope to see many Friends of the Library and community members at the event tomorrow!
