Happy International Women’s Day: Your Vote Counts! 1

Thank you to the League of Women Voters of Glendale/Burbank for sponsoring last night’s Glendale City Council candidates forum. Introducing the event, Joan Hardie recalled that California women won the right to vote one hundred years ago, in 2011, by a margin of 240 votes statewide. The lesson, said Hardie, is that your vote counts.

International Women’s Day is also celebrating its 100th observance today, March 8, with gatherings at bridges around the world. The closest is at the Colorado Bridge in Pasadena, taking place now.

Women of Glendale: take a moment to realize that so many women around the world don’t have equal rights. Reward our local League of Women Voters for its work to educate citizens and preserve our rights: vote in the upcoming election, support the organization, and stay engaged!

The candidates forum will be rebroadcast on GTV6 several times before the election on April 5; voters can also attend one or more upcoming forums organized by other civic groups – check the Sunroom Desk calendar for details.
