Go for Baroque Concert and Glendale Philharmonic Season Opening This Weekend


La Canada Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir and Orchestra will perform Go for Baroque, a concert featuring music of Antonio Vivaldi, on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 4 p.m. Sunday, the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra opens its new season at the First Baptist Church in Glendale (Sunday concert program and details here).

The Saturday La Canada concert features Vivaldi’s less-known Magnificat and better-known favorite Gloria, as well as the Concerto for Two Trumpets and Orchestra, featuring Raymond Burkhart and Kevin Brown as bravura trumpet soloists. Featured soloists for the Vivaldi works include soprano Lori Stinson, alto Diane Wallace and tenor Matthew Thomas.

The concert, part of LCPC’s Ovations Arts Series, will also mark the debut of the new harpsichord built by a team of church members.

A pre-concert 3 p.m. lecture on the context of Vivaldi’s music in early-18th-century Venice will be delivered by Thomas, the tenor soloist, in the Worship Arts Center. The concert will follow in the church Sanctuary.
