My Art, My City Filmmakinging Contest Asks Students “How Does Art Define Your Community/City?”
Glendale Arts just launched the My Art, My City Student Filmmaking Contest, with the support of Glendale Kiwanis Club, Sedna Solutions, and It Factory Media.
The contest is geared to Glendale and neighboring communities’ 16-24 year-olds, and asks students to create and promote videos that answer the question, “How does art define your community/city?” Students who live in Glendale, La Crescenta, La Canada, Burbank, Eagle Rock and Atwater Village are eligible.
Glendale Arts opened this contest to engage youth in expressing aspirations for arts, culture, and entertainment events and activities. “We wanted to see how the arts define a community through the eyes of the bright and talented students of our local schools,” said Barry McComb, CEO of Glendale Arts.
The Glendale Kiwanis Club helped fund the three prizes for the contest winners. First place prize is an iPad WiFi, Plus 3G with 64 GB, second prize is an iPad WiFi 16GB, and the third place prize is a Canon Powershot SX 120 IS Digital Camera. All three prizes are perfect for an artist, as they provide tools that artists can use immediately to work more effectively.
Original content can be anything from a photo essay in Flash, music videos, or a documentary. The topic must be covered in less than two minutes. To participate, go to the GlendaleArts website, and sign up to be a MyGA member. The Glendale Arts website is a free space for artists of all mediums to blog, post materials, engage in discussion with other artists, and promote their shows or exhibits.
