Big Draw for Neighborhood Shredding Event 2

I should have gone through old papers and taken advantage of a free document shredding event offered Saturday by the Northwest Glendale Homeowners Association. I only brought one small box.

Others thought ahead, cleaned out closets and files, and watched their sensitive but unneeded papers get shredded in the parking lot of New Life Christian Church. One neighbor hired a handyman for two hours and had him load his van (photo below) with 40 boxes of old documents; another person brought 27 boxes.NWGHAShred1While members could each dispose of only three boxes free, the service was still a great bargain at $3 for each additional box, shredded while you wait, just a few blocks away from home. The association planed the community service event following reports of recycling bin raiding for identity theft, and signed up new members that day. California Document Shredding provided the service, and brought a full-size truck equipped with bin lift and shredder.
NWGHAShred2Those driving up for service got help loading papers into bins, watched them lifted and dumped in the truck, and saw the shredding through a view window.

Thanks to the Northwest Glendale Homeowners Association for sponsoring this event. Glendale residents: this association and others throughout the city (including the just-formed Grand Central Neighborhood Association) advocate for residents’ concerns at city council meetings and other civic forums. Join your local voluntary association, and come to their meetings to hear about issues affecting residents in the city of Glendale or share an issue of concern to you. All 20 homeowner groups send representatives to the Glendale Homeowners Coordinating Council, another voluntary group, which meets once a month.

Wonderful idea! We shred sensitive material at home but we do not know of anyway of recycling the shredded material. Would like to know if there are any ways to recycle the home shredded paper.

In Glendale we have recycling bins that can be set out on regular trash pick up days. We can put in paper, bottles, etc. I’ve put bags of shredded paper in the recycling bin, assuming that’s OK. Keeping the bags closed is a little tricky.
