U.S. Department of Energy Awards $750,000 Grant to GCC Technology Division

UPDATED TITLE 4/21/10: The total grant amount is $1.136 million, with in-kind contributions.

The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded a $750K grant to Glendale Community College’s Technology Division for expanding utility worker training curricula and programs in Southern California. The grant combines with in-kind support from GCC and the Verdugo Workforce Investment Board for a total of $1.136 million, and will fund GCC courses in utility line work, wind turbines, and smart grid technology.

GCC is one of only three California institutions to receive the DOE grants for Workforce Training for the Electric Power Sector, and the only community college among them. Partial grant funding came through the U.S. American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.
