UPDATE: Public Hearings for Some Right-of-Way Installations Will Be Proposed by City Staff for Glendale Wireless Ordinance
Glendale city staff will propose public hearings for certain wireless facility right-of-way applications at the City Council meeting April 6.
Posted today on the city’s website, an addendum to the ordinance will institute such hearings in the following limited circumstances:
1. such facilities are proposed for non-preferred zones or historic districts; and
2. the applicant claims there are no feasible alternative sites; and
3. the applicant has made a showing that a significant coverage gap would exist if the facility were prohibited in the proposed location.
There would be certain exceptions to the public hearing requirement.
With public hearings allowed to settle questions of absolute need for a wireless facility in a particular location, the ordinance would offer the city and residents more opportunities for evaluating wireless carrier applications. (The ordinance already requires applicants to demonstrate 1) that there are no feasible alternatives, and 2) a significant coverage gap.)
