Walnut Creek District Superintendent Against Clearwire Tower Proposal for Elementary School

From Crazy in Suburbia, covering events in Walnut Creek, California:

Following what was described as a raucous community meeting last Wednesday– crowded with 100 parents and residents concerned about a proposal to build a wireless antenna near the Walnut Heights playing field–Superintendent Patty Wool is recommending that the school’s board reject the proposal.

The community’s three concerns: aesthetics, health concerns, and property values. An email from Wool reprinted in the post stated: “the Clearwire men were ill-prepared and offered no concrete information that facilitated the discussion.”

Telecoms such as Clearwire have the FCC, and federal and state laws, backing their build-out plans. Relying on laws that trump municipal codes, and asserting that questions about health effects have been “settled” isn’t persuading citizens either up north or in Glendale and surrounding communities.
