No Advance Notification: LA Homeowners Finding Cell Towers Next to Them Almost Overnight 3

The Glendale draft wireless ordinance (up for review February 3rd!) is all the more important considering what’s happening in Los Angeles right now: with no coordinated oversight or public notice mechanism, cell towers are going up as replacement utility poles right next to homes all over the city. Glendale residents need to insist on strong protection so the same thing doesn’t happen here. LA residents are currently petitioning their city council to take action against an onslaught of stealth cell tower installations.

From a Los Angeles resident: “Here are before and after photos of a replacement pole recently erected by DWP (for the benefit of T-Mobile) in Cheviot Hills (near Century City). Note: the photos depict the same corner (a new home now replaces the home in the before photo). The same thing may be happening in the Palisades and likely is happening elsewhere (no notice, no regulation, DWP involved, etc.). We appreciate the fact that you have all expressed concern about cell tower proliferation/regulation (or lack thereof) in L.A.; clearly this is a very troubling development which we will bring to the attention of the city attorney/City Council and which we hope will be dealt with soon.”

HELP PREVENT MANSIONIZATION IN GLENOAKS CANYON: My wife and I put together a flyer calling to the attention that on JAN 19,2010 at 6pm at City Hall the city of Glendale Planning Dept was not going to change the city ordinance on set-back and building height requirements along Hollister Terrace in the Glenoaks Canyon area of the city.Wife and I took it upon ourselves and volunteered and handed out over 200 flyers in the neighborhood. Why the city can not get volunteers or hire some day workers to send out notifications is beyond my comprehension. This city is becoming more famous for lack of notifications of city changes to residents.

With the explosion of new unregulated Cell sites it should be recommended that all new Cell site antenna installtions be submitted Directly through the city council members and be subjected for review for Neighborhood impact. or in the least make it mandatory that these companies get a neighborhood sign-off from each individual house that is impacted visually.
