Nahabedian Claims Board Experience, Determination to Shift Debate, in 43rd District Assembly Run 5

Difficult decisions she’s made as a school board member uniquely qualify her to be the 43rd District’s state assembly representative, said Nayiri Nahabedian at a Thursday press conference promoting her candidacy.

The Glendale School Board member and Cal State LA professor has signed on to the race against Democrats Andrew Westall and Mike Gatto and Republican Sundar Ramani.

Glendale has managed its education budget conservatively, avoiding layoffs to date, although further budget cuts are straining negotiations with teachers over benefits and exposing pitfalls of other mandates. “Weighing whether to cut counselors or increase class sizes; these are the kinds of difficult decision I’ve had to make locally and balance the budget. We need someone at the state level who has the experience of balancing budgets. I’ve done that in Glendale,” Nahabedian said.

How will she approach reforming California’s education system, a goal that has eluded our state legislators? “We need to shift the debate to focus on the business of the people of California, on jobs and families,” Nahabedian answered. Difficult to do, in a state where special interests and advocacy groups quickly mobilize to fight proposed cuts in any area, and where the education bureaucracy’s work is increasingly distant from local concerns.

What about the state’s almost total control over local budgets and program implementation? As we discussed the CLAD requirement, recently a hot topic in Glendale, Nahabedian said the lesson is that state policies must be designed with input from those who are primarily affected by them.

She added, “I believe we need to send to Sacramento a representative who knows how local governments work — someone who knows exactly the repercussions of Sacramento’s policies right here at home. The way Sacramento is running now isn’t working. We can do better!”

It seems like Nayiri Nahabedian has a credibility problem. I am just not sure that I can trust her. That video speaks volumes, for one. Thanks for posting it Jane.

Additionally, Nayiri Nahabedian claims to be a “University Professor” on all her political stuff. That’s an unacceptable exaggeration. She is a part-time lecturer. She does not have the credentials (i.e., doctorate) to be a full professor, and she does not have tenure. What gives?

    I just can’t trust her.

Finally, what budgets has she “balanced” at the local level?

Lies, lies, lies. I’m not buying this one, sorry.

Videos like that are orchestrated by Gatto’s people, aka, Frank Quintero. The video doesn’t say anything and only illustrates the desperation days brought forth by the Quintero campaign.

First, the video says the campaign staff that is managing Nahabedian’s campaign was ‘accused’ of wrongdoing in the last assembly race. The only accusation that came about was from Quintero and his campaign manager’s family. Then the ‘Glendale City Council had to pass an ordinance’ to protect people from Nahabedian, yet again that ordinance was brought forth by Quintero and pushed to a successful vote via scare tactics. This is all a stupid little game. I don’t know if I’m going to vote for Nahabedian but I sure as heck ain’t voting for Gatto and his ALREADY DESPERATE CAMPAIGN TACTICS.

Do not trust her she has a problem with ethics as a former student of hers. I would like to add– she is not a Professor she does not hold Doctorate. I would be more than happy to help the other two that running against her. If you claim to be a Social worker what about ethics or did you forget about past ethical issues with your students?
