Thankful for Local Libraries? Check Out Book Nook, Amazon Link for Holiday Gifts

Libraries in Glendale and everywhere else in Southern California during this recession are attracting more visitors than ever, while strained government budgets are curtailing library hours and programs.

Express your thanks for the opportunities our library system provides for the unemployed, the elderly, students and all citizens:

and get a “Friends of the Library” card!

Friends of the Glendale Public Library aim to raise more than $20,000 this year for operations and programs by selling used books via the Book Nook, dock sales, and an online amazon.com account. The library also receives a percentage of every amazon.com purchase that starts with a link from the Friends webpage.

The Book Nook sells donated books at the Central Library (sales also take place at branch libraries) and is open 7 days a week, Monday – Thursday noon to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday – noon to 5 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 4 p.m.

Periodic dock sales clear out inventories of donated books. A $.50/book special sale for educators and librarians (ID required) is ongoing at the Chevy Chase library on Wednesdays 2 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays noon to 5 p.m. until December 9th. The sale will open to the public on Saturday, December 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a special Friends pre-sale from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. of $.25 per book!

Shoppers can join the Friends of the Library on the spot to enjoy the discount.

Happy Thanksgiving!
