The 72nd branch of the LA Public Library system, the Silver Lake library is a showpiece of sustainable design.

"City planning at its best," the library has bike racks, drought tolerant landscaping, a new bus stop (MTA changed its Route 92 to stop in front of the library), and is a Gold LEED certified building constructed with recycled and renewable materials

Local state assembly representative Paul Krekorian gave the library a flag that had flown over the capitol in Sacramento.

Friends of the Silver Lake Library formed in 2004, and have been working with the LA Library system on design, amenities, and fundraising for the new branch. They presented this giant check for $20,000 at the grand opening
