LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, 13th District Council member Eric Garcetti and 4th District Council member Tom La Bonge joined LA Library officials, city works staff, Friends of the Silver Lake Library, and several hundred community members at the grand opening of the Silver Lake Library.
The 72nd branch of the LA Public Library system, the Silver Lake library is a showpiece of sustainable design.
Eric Garcetti thanked the MTA, which changed bus route 92 so it would stop along Glendale Blvd. in front of the Library.
Council member Tom La Bonge presented 13 books to the new 13th District library, including childrens’ books, Los Angeles area guidebooks, histories of the LA Dodgers and the Port of LA, and a John Wooden memoir. La Bonge’s 4th District boundary is right across the street from the library!
Local state assembly representative Paul Krekorian gave the library a flag that had flown over the capitol in Sacramento.
