UPDATE: Wireless Ordinance Includes Easements:
SCE Promotes Utility Poles For New Cell Sites

How will Glendale regulate or process cell site installations on existing utility poles? a resident asked at the wireless ordinance meeting in Sparr-Heights last Saturday. The answer was misunderstood, and reported as follows:

Public works counsel Christina Sansone answered that installations on existing utility easements are outside the city’s jurisdiction.

GWP poles located on right-of-way easements are exempt from both of these permit processes.

Sansone issued a correction this afternoon, indicating that installations of wireless antennas on easements ARE regulated by the City and will be subject to the draft wireless antenna ordinance. Sansone indicated there may be a legal question involved if the utility expands the use of the easement. GWP poles located on right-of-way easements will NOT be exempt from the ordinance.

Other utility companies own street lights as well as telephone poles in their service area. Southern California Edison is advertising their infrastructure and services to wireless providers. This is a commercial venture in which SCE can lease pole-top space in existing easements to wireless providers.
