From the 9/24/09 Glendale Police Department APB:
Over the last week there has been an increase in vehicle burglaries. These have occurred primarily on the west side of town, as well as the northern (Montrose/La Crescenta) area. The burglaries on the west side occurred almost exclusively in common subterranean garages (apartments/townhouses) with multiple vehicles at each location. The vehicles were broken into by window smash. In the La Crescenta area, unlocked vehicles were entered. Items stolen were easily found and removed: iPods, cell phones, portable GPS units, expensive sunglasses, clothing items and other valuables.
To protect yourself, lock your vehicle. Eliminate any attraction to your vehicle by removing any and all valuables. Anything in sight is a temptation, even if the vehicle is locked. If you live in a building with multiple units, be sure your common parking area is properly secured, and advise your neighbors to be vigilant. Make sure gates are closed, and report any poor lighting conditions to management. As always, if you see suspicious activity, be a good witness. Do not attempt to apprehend or detain anyone, but instead call the police immediately.
