Senate Approves California Budget;
Liu Supported Proposed Bills

Glendale’s State Senator Carol Liu voted in favor of the latest state budget proposed by Governor Schwarzenegger and four legislative leaders. The budget bills passed in the Senate today, and await a vote in the Assembly.

Glendale City Manager Jim Starbird had contacted both Senator Liu and Assembly member Paul Krekorian urging them not to support the budget because it will take millions from Glendale and other local governments. (A report on Krekorian’s vote will follow as soon as it is available.)

The KCET blog says this budget has “something for everyone to hate” and elaborates in a series of links and quotes. Of particular interest to those following a local politician’s career, LAist looks at Assemblyman/LA City Council Candidate Paul Krekorian’s dilemma on the budget: should he vote for or against a budget that hurts Los Angeles?
