July 11 Glendale History Walk Highlights

My favorite stops along the Glendale History Walk:

The Glendale Municipal Power and Light Building: antiquated but functioning equipment is still used to direct power to parts of central Glendale. I’d never before noticed this building next to the civic center parking lot. We went inside in groups to look at the equipment which is now run remotely.

The Goode House, central feature of an affordable housing project completed a few years ago. As Parks and Rec Capital Project Administrator Dave Ahern told the tour, Edgar Goode was a model Southern California philanthropist whose interests were transportation (he facilitated an interurban railway project to Glendale), health care, and education.

Special thanks to the Glendale Historical Society, the Safe and Healthy Streets program, and Glendale Parks, Recreation, and Community Development for the great walking tour of downtown Glendale historical buildings. See more photos, and a walking guide at Tropico Station.
