Summer School 2009: Options for Young Students in the Glendale Unified School District 1

Funds for Glendale Unified summer school programs must still be available, at least for this year. At-risk students must attend programs at the elementary level, while other students have options.

Seven district schools will run Elementary Summer Intervention Programs (ESIP) only for at-risk students identified by teachers. The 4-week program begins June 29 and runs through July 23, 4 days a week, 4 hours a day at Cerritos, Edison, Franklin, Lincoln, Jefferson, Mann, and Muir elementary schools.

For all other students, including those outside the school district, Glendale Community College is offering a Summer Enrichment Program for students entering Kindergarten through 6th grade. This program will be held at Fremont and Mark Keppel schools. Different courses are available, the program runs 8:30 to 11:45 a.m. from July 6 – July 31, five days a week, and the cost is $375.

Toll Middle School and Roosevelt Middle School will offer summer school for incoming or returning students, June 22 – July 30, 4 days a week, from 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

An additional option : The Glendale Educational Foundation is offering Adventure ’09 Middle School Enrichment courses including writing, arts, sports, science, web design and more, at Rosemont Middle School and Wilson Middle School. These are also open to students outside the school district. They will run June 23 – July 30, 4 days a week, and are tuition based.
