Under the Paperweight, April 12-18, 2009

Announcements of a green energy bill and a city of Los Angeles clean technology partnership, and blog posts on the need to make walking and cycling easier and safer were under the Paperweight last week.

In the week before Earth Day 2009, the selections show that government, business, and community members are all getting on board the conservation train.

AB 64, the energy bill, will be considered today by a second legislative committee en route to consideration by the full Assembly, according to the Glendale News Press feature. It reduces bureaucratic and political delays for utilities’ green energy plans.

The Los Angeles initiative targets a 4-mile industrial area along the LA River east of downtown. There’s a wakeup call for Glendale here. Bob Yousefian and others have suggested targeting the San Fernando Road corridor redevelopment area as a “green corridor.”

In addition to the linked blog posts under the Paperweight, Sunroom Desk published two news items last week on Glendale cycling and walking issues, and one advertising the city’s April 18 reusable tote bag giveaway. I dropped by the Recycling Center and claimed a tote bag myself; I also picked up two cool pencils – one made of recycled U.S. currency and another made of recycled newspapers.
