Local Politician Proud of Fellow Student Obama

As the Glendale News Press noted this morning (and Huell Hauser featured in a recent program), Barack Obama spent two years at Occidental College before transferring to Columbia. He took two classes with Oxy alumnus and current Glendale City Councilman Ara Najarian.

This editor usually spends all morning reading the news and editorials of the day, in newsprint and online. This morning the television was on until after 10 a.m. Pacific Time; papers and the Internet could be read later.

I appreciated President Obama’s address, especially his drive to get government working for the citizens of this country. We can no longer afford to waste time, money, and resources; we can no longer afford petty rhetoric; we can no longer afford not to work together.

The rapid and surefooted ascent of Barack Obama up the trail to the White House is an inspiration to all Americans, and proof that our system can serve its ideals of freedom, justice, and opportunity. It is also a challenge to us to use our own gifts to help our community and our country.
